How many Classroom (theory) hours are necessary?

The USDOT and FMCSA do not require a specific number  of hours of classroom theory time for commercial drivers prior to initial licensure.

Our internal requirements are:

Class A CDL (Truck Driving) - 16 hours of classroom theory time.

Class B CDL (Truck Driving) - 14 hours of classroom theory time.

Class B CDL - Bus Endorsement (Passenger Driving) - 8 hours of classroom theory time + Class B Licensure

TDT offers individual training that meets and often exceeds the minimum number of hours.  Your success is our success.  We offer the training in an individual format, hybrid learning format, full online format and small and large group formats.  We even hold group trainings at area conference centers to assist with training and networking.

Please note, classroom theory time is simply that, training in the classroom.  Additional behind the wheel training is available for additional cost from TDT Safety Training.

These amounts are actual training time learning.  Some people learn at different paces, so our online portal may take more or less time than is noted above.
